it’s a start

Beginnings can be tricky. As I’ve spent the last week or so tinkering with the design of the site, that ridiculous WordPress automatic first post kept staring me in the face, taunting me, ridiculing me for having to write something, anything, for my own stupid blog, because I couldn’t be bothered to write it myself. “I’m busy,” I told it. “Just get off your lazy fucking ass and stop playing with the pretty pictures,” it replied. So, in a fit of shameful indignance, I deleted it.
Someone who knows about such things once told me that Tolkien wrote the first portions of The Fellowship of the Ring four times before he got it right. Maybe it was three. Anyway, the point is that he had a sense of what he wanted, he just didn’t know exactly what that was going to look like. Until, I suppose, he just stumbled into it. Proper, good beginnings can be tough.
Perhaps a welcome is in order. Welcome. I hope you’ll stick around because I have lots to say, and maybe some of it might even be interesting. You never know. I’ll chat about web design, and all sorts of dorkiness like gaming, sf and fantasy, classic arcade games, and stuff for people who wear tee-shirts with gaming dice printed on them. I’ll also probably have insane moments of ruthless introspection, where I beat myself up about how I don’t particularly like what I am, who I am, or where I am (on the path of life). I’ll also talk about my projects, and share with you some of the stuff I’m doing that I think is exciting, and desperately want you to think is exciting too.
So. Beginnings. And welcomings. And blogginginings. I’ll get the hang of this. Even if it takes me four tries, and a million different ways of staging someone’s eleventy-first birthday.
