yum yum good

Innocuous post time.

We all know that Trader Joe’s is a lifeline to survival, without which we would be doomed to pay too much at Whole Foods, and have to buy chemical garbage at Vons, Ralphs, or put-your-supermarket-chain-here.

A lunch that I’ve found I really enjoy when I’m at home takes just a few minutes to cook, and like five minutes to prep, and it all starts with one of Trader Joe’s cheap-o frozen organic pizzas.Trader Giotto's Frozen Organic Pizza

When I first started buying these pizzas, I was thrilled with how great they tasted compared to other near-lethal frozen pizzas. But, they lost their lustre pretty fast. The truth is, they’re plain. Plainer than the plainest plain.

So, the answer is to give them a little punch, and to do it cheap like. Here’s what I’ve found works wonders:

  1. Take a “Trader Giotto’s organic Three Cheese pizza”. Remove all packaging.
  2. Slice a green bell pepper in half (save the other half, just to be frugal). Dice the half green bell pepper into small bits, but not small enough that it turns into pulp.
  3. Grate a thin layer of mozzarella cheese over the top of the frozen pizza (if you’re super lazy, you can buy pre-grated mozzarella).
  4. Crack open a can of sliced black olives.
  5. Sprinkle a handful of olives and your diced bell pepper over your mozzarella-enhanced frozen pizza. A modest sprinkling will do; just to make it look colorful.
  6. Optionally, now sprinkle a dash of your favorite parmesan over the pizza.
  7. Optional optionally, lay half-a-dozen or so slices of pepperoni around your pizza (they will curl if they are placed on top, but that’s authentic).
  8. Cook for less than five minutes in a pre-heated 425-degree oven.
  9. Enjoy.
  10. Feel smug that you made the pizza yourself, and unlike Dominoe’s/Papa John’s/Pizza Hut, it’s mostly organic and completely natural.

Truthfully, if you buy the extra ingredients at the right place, you could wind up with something that’s like 95% organic (even the pepperoni), which is awesome. Children in rural farming areas will go to bed at night thanking you, knowing you’re encouraging farming practices which will lessen the chance of them waking up the following morning having grown an extra arm, with fur all over it.

Yum yum pizza. Yum yum good.
